Nox (aka Richard Miller)

Nox is a self-described "not necessarily geographically appropriate percussionist." He plays drums and percussion from all over the world, often crossing genres to explore sounds outside their native musical environment. His primary instrument is tupan or davul, which is a bass drum slung over one shoulder and played with a beater on the bass side and a switch on the off-side for a snare-like effect. Garnish with cymbals on top and there's a whole rhythm section!

Peasants Abroad

Turkish fusion played on traditional instruments, often for belly dancers. This is a collaborative effort with Nazario Chickpeazio on oud, flute, and other traditional stringed instruments.

Water Street Bridge

Eclectic acoustic, alt-folk, garage-Celtic, steampunk - this genre-bending band spans a broad range of what some call "folk" music and others call just plain fun. At full capacity, WSB has four members, a lot of strings, wind, accordion, and all the percussion Nox can carry.

Forward! Marching Band

Forward! is a community brass band as at home on the street in scatter-band tradition as they are on stage like any respectable orchestra - with giant puppets. Find them at rallies, benefits, protests, street-corner busking, parades, parks, festivals, and gazebos.

Other Collaborations

Marc Gunn

Award-winning Marc Gunn is a geek musician. He fuses his love of science fiction, fantasy, and comedy with his Scots-Irish heritage. Nox appears on "As Long As I'm Flyin'", Marc's latest album of Firefly drinking songs. Check out Marc's website for news of other releases including Nox. You may also see them do a few songs together at the next GenCon Indy!

The Burning Band

Sometimes described as "a drinking band with a marching problem," this gang of rogues get together once a year at Burning Man to gift their own form of musical mayhem to the community. Specializing in public domain favorites, plus a few chestnuts, the award-winning Burning Band will gladly play weddings, theme parties, mutant vehicle excursions, open stages, and just about every bar they stumble across. Ask for the original marching band of Burning Man, The Burning Band!

Nox has been honored to share the stage on many occasions with The Cajun Strangers, the Midwest’s premier Cajun music dance bands. He's handy with the t-fer, as well as on a full kit.

Etc.

Nox has also sat-in with:

Reptile Palace Orchestra - eclectic world beat (Balkan lounge funk)

Yid Vicious - heartland klezmer

Lojo Russo - roots music that reaches for the sky

Lemon Bucket Orkestra - Toronto's original guerrilla-folk party-punk band

...and countless combinations of Ren Faire performers!
